Improve living conditions and protect wildlife reserve in Malawi
What we do
Honey with Heart is an innovative social enterprise that is empowering communities across Africa through the production and sale of high-quality honey. Situated in some of the most remote areas in Africa, with limited access to employment opportunities, these communities share the land with national parks and reserves and had previously relied heavily on them for their survival. However, Honey with Heart has trained communities with the skills and resources to be able to produce organic honey as a source of income, thus empowering them to build an economic foundation to improve their lives so that they are able to preserve their national parks for future generations.

OUR STORY
Malawi is nicknamed “The Warm Heart of Africa” because of the friendliness of its people and that is what my family experienced in 2012 during our first stay in Malawi where my family visited Dzaleka Refugee Camp. It was then that my family realized that Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world and my family felt an obligation to do something. After supporting some projects around Malawi for a few years, Frits Terwindt was inspired to found Honey with Heart in 2018, in a formal collaboration with African Parks (the NGO responsible for the management of the three national parks and reserves). The partnership provides a vehicle to develop and provide a sustainable, selfsufficient, income generating business for those communities living around the parks.
African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization that takes on the complete responsibility for the rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks in partnership with governments and local communities. They currently manage three national parks in Malawi.
